More insurance companies collusion not the government. The government makes the laws the structures forced insurance and in the case of medicare and medicade they are in on it. For most people it's their insurer.

You mean insurance companies' collusion with the government.

The government makes the laws the structures forced insurance and in the case of medicare and medicade they are in on it.

The government makes the laws which protect the insurance/pharmaceutical/medical companies from competition.

Citation for the US government negotiating drug prices?

They might negotiate for medicare or medicaid recipients, but I'm guessing it's the insurance companies or the free market that decides how much everyone else pays.

What freemarket. It's illegal to use another market. It's a government monopoly.

I'm not sure if they negotiate the prices per se, but they do enforce stuff like getting FDA approvals that forces up the prices of drugs astronomically.

Fun fact: it's been estimated that, for every dollar spent on research and development, 19 are spent on lobbying.

For real though! I recently went down to southern Texas to visit an old friend of mine and when we crossed into Mexaco, I was able to purchase the exact same asthma inhalers that 1) you need a prescription for here in the States and 2) cost $35 with Copay and upwards of $75 without insurance, for no more that $4 per inhaler and we were able to get them over the counter without a prescription. I fucking picked up a shitload of them too!

It's bullshit that I can't purchase the inhalers online from whatever country I want, and equally more bullshit that the US "banned" the old inhalers (which had generics on the markets for) because the CFC's in them were "destroying the ozone," while the newly put in place patent laws prevent generics to be manufactured for quite some time still... It literally a fucking pfarma shakedown and the politicians are the ones holding us upside down to shake the "change," (see what I did there... "Change") out of our God Damned pockets!

Something's gotta change man... Something's gotta change real quick because this shit is like being enslaved to Big Pharma...

It's perfectly legal for them to 'globalize' the manufacturing of their product, but completely illegal for normal people to 'globalize' their purchasing. One set of rules for them and a separate set of rules for us.

How is it that no one understands that this is how everything works the richest country and inhabitants pay the lion share of the cost. Welcome to global paying your fair share.

There is a really simple quick fix now for hep C patients though. Drop 5k (or less) on a round trip ticket to India. Buy a 6 month supply (just to be safe) and get cured. You can right now treat 15 people like this for the cost of 1 domestic. Why don't insurers give you a plane ticket for this?

I would hope they wouldn't charge the equivalent of 4000 USD to some poor soul dealing in Rupees

i wonder if you can just get international insurance or indian insurance to fulfill obamacare, and then get a plane ticket to india if you need to go to the hospital? i mean this would make more economic sense.
