Technically the statute of limitation ran out on those charges, they had to be dropped. Saying they dropped them insinuates that didn't have enough evidence to convict. I agree these charges on their own were very weak but we shouldn't go with that title, IMO.

Honestly whoever imposed investigation and defended it should be indicted for rape hoax.

Now if only such an enlightened legal system existed.

"as deadline expires" implied to me exactly that, that despite whatever case they had they were forced to drop them due to a limitation of some kind.

Is he the only guy that Sweden is interested in prosecuting for rape. Sweden has one of the highest rates of rape in the world and one of the lowest rates of prosecutions for rape, yet they only seem to relentlessly follow this guy. WTF? Where are all the immigrant rape prosecutions?

I'm just guessing, but it's highly likely most immigrant rapists aren't as dedicated to exposing state secrets of major world powers.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sweden had a law requiring that you had to prosecute all demographics equally, such that you could never convict more brown rapists than you could white rapists.

They record sex without a condom when she said 'use a condom' as rape. Which is what Assange is charged with.

IIRC it wasn't about him defending himself on rape charges, it was so he wouldn't get extradited to the US.

The 44-year-old Australian can still however be prosecuted for the more serious claim of rape, which carries a 10-year statute of limitations and expires in 2020.

So, unfortunately, no.

I'm pretty sure that even if it runs out, the Scotlandyard will be able to arrest him because he's wanted for avoiding arrest.

so, whats the catch now? they won't let him go so easily, with half of britain's force deployed around this supposed international criminal. Look at how worked up uncle sam is against this guy. how dare a pheasant expose the oligarchy!

Stupid assholes complained to Ecuador that it's just not cricket. You made us charge the taxpayer 15 million pounds.

Fucking idiots. The RBS, Natwest and HSBC have done billions of damage to the taxpayer and yet get given a free reign to fuck the taxpayer some more.

Which means what now? Since there's reason to extradite him anymore on criminal charges will he be able to leave that room?

There's still a rape charge that won't expire until 2020.

As BS as the whole situation probably is it's pretty sad that the woman who raised this case can't get her day in court because other nations want to pounce on him the second he leaves the embassy for other "crimes". They could easily videolink him to the court to give his evidence, but it's not about that is it? Nice justice there world.

What other nations want to "pounce" on him? I guess the UK because he jumped bail but I didn't think there were other countries waiting.

Anywhere he goes with a US extradition treaty, which is a lot of different countries, not that he could get out of the UK because the second he steps foot outside the doors of the embassy he will be arrested, which is why there is police posted there 24/7.

The whole thing is a case of entrapment. Assange has already served 5 years in prison in the Ecuadorian embassy over the whole thing.

If the US govt wanted Cosby like they want Assange, Cosby would have be sitting in a foreign black site or gitmo years ago.
