So what, if a democracy wants to decide to grow GMOs or not grow GMOs, let them.

If a person decides they never want to eat food that begins with the letter T, we let them, too. Doesn't make it a better decision

Not to mention they always say they want GMO labels so they can make informed decisions for themselves. But it seems given the chance they're happy making the choice for everyone else too.

There's a difference between letting people decide for themselves and scaring people into that decision.

What make you think they were scared and not just being cautious?

Most research on current GMOs is only allowed if the company who owns the patent approves the study. It doesn't prove there not safe but it does make so people suspicious.

All of the GMO "experts" have flocked to this post I see. Per usual.

GMOs are banned plenty of places. This isn't anything unusual, especially for Europe (which has tremendously higher food standards than America.)

In this case higher doesn't mean better.

GMOs are banned in Kenya alone, and even there it was a decision made without input from any Kenyan government science or regulatory bodies.

You are thinking of a global ban. Many countries in Europe have bans on specific gmos.

Did.... did you just compare a Continent to a Country(in terms of quality of food)? And try to take the high ground with that? Okay.....

What have I stated that needs to be called into question? Hmm? That it isn't uncommon for European countries to ban GMO? That's a fact, doesn't need a study. Maybe you do though?

most people don't support gmo's. get over it.

Most people don't, but most scientists do. The scientific consensus on the safety of GMOs is stronger than it is for vaccines or man-made global warming. Fear-based marketing works really well. Just because an opinion is popular doesn't mean its right.

We can go back to organic farming, which can feed about four billion people, maybe less. So, how about you and your anti-science crowd get to work on a list of the three billion or more people that get to starve to death.

Breed less, or you'll hit the ceiling eventually. If you want to know where your mentality leads, go to Bangladesh and revel in the squalor, elbow to elbow in an ocean of piss and shit.

Yeah! It's so great that now we can't have controlled, scientificly programmed plants were we know exactly what's changing and are the exact same thing chemically, but rather we need to rely on random chance that could introduce a whole new host of issues and usually not even work, simply because people are afraid of new things! Yeah! On a related note, fuck Monsanto for making GM look evil by doing evil things with GM

I always wonder the this question when people get happy about banning GMOs: If we had a way to prevent 2 million children in poverty each year from dying or going blind but it mildly makes rich kids uncomfortable, should we do it?

Banning GMOs should not be seem as a sign of progress but backwardness. Millions of people are fed each day because of increased yields and condition tolerance. If Golden Rice was introduced into certain areas of the world, the damages caused by lack of vitamin A could be negated. The reason we do not just give them carrots is because traditional and accepted diets do not include foods with vitamin A. GMOs allows us to introduce more nutrients into already accepted diets and cultural customs. The question could be framed as I did at the top of my post.
