I think you vastly underestimate the numbers. The AfD becoming the third-strongest party when it only exists since 2013 and has German MSM constanty decrying it at every available opportunity is huge. Especially given that said third-strongest party traditionally enjoys certain privileges in the German Bundestag.

In the US its mostly a winner take all system. Also all our politicians on both sides are coopted by business interests above all else.

I acknowledge things might be different in parlamentary europe but it doesnt change the fact that a majority of germans are still marching in lock step with their ruler like they usually do.

Even if they deny them these privileges, the resulting show of hipocrisy would only drive even more conservative voters towards the AfD. There's a reason why German MSM currently is more salty than the Dead Sea.

EDIT: Nevermind about that, the SPD decided to become the main opposition party.
