It varies obviously, but most places were much more savage historically than they are today. Western Europe is an exception. You would likely meet the same fate as this kayaker of you camped alone along the Amazon a century ago. The difference being your eulogy would read 'never heard from again'

Yes, that's true, but the total freedom of randomly selecting a place on this earth and going there, isn't as safe as it use to be. You can't really deny that.

Can you?

I use to always feel 'OKAY' asking someone about their culture, their heritage, but the way things are today, I make judgement calls instead of learning. It's a restrictive feeling. There tension where there once wasn't any.
