How? Russia benefits from this by supplying the economic void china left by pulling out, they gain a larger foothold in supplying oil to the eastern countries, and they can put themselves in position to offer the olive branch to North Korea. This last one is important because if they can find a way to peacefully resolve the situation over there they can improve relations with all parties involved. This way they can open up other trade opportunities to possibly fill any economic gap which may occur if Saudi Arabia ends up making a pipeline to Europe; this would effectively end Russia's monopoly in supplying Europe with oil.
