I'm not sure why any country wants to host the Olympics? it never breaks even

It doesn't matter what the country wants--it matters what the politicians and corporations want.

Didn't Los Angeles in 84 break even, or even managed to turn a profit (at least they bragged about it at the time)

The U.S. and a couple other nations already have the infrastructure to handle an Olympics. Then the facilities get used long after the Olympics are over. But when a country like Brazil and Russia build shit just for the Olympics it makes for a negative impact on the system.

"Hosting" the Olympics has become an expensive sucker bet that corrupt politicians use to get rich. They should just build a set of massive floating venues and move them around the world like cruise ships. When they're not being used for the Olympics they can be a nice resort.

Olympics with no nationalism is just a money grubbing corporate snooze fest played generally only rich people could afford to train/participate.

There really isn't another use for these buildings, other then if they hosted them again the following time. Even then is it cheaper to keep up with it for 4 years or just do repairs at the last minute. The scale of the Olympics isn't matched by many routine events and those events move around or have facilities already.

'But now the Olympic legacy lies in ruins, new photos have revealed, with arenas crumbling and already falling into disrepair. '
'Less than six months ago, the eyes of the world were on the huge Olympic stadiums in Rio. '
'This was at a time when the Brazilian economy was in a huge recession, and state workers were being paid late, if at all. '
'Two years earlier, the Ministry of Sport stated, $11.63billion was spent on bringing the World Cup to the cash-strapped country. '
'The stadium was looted last month, and the consortium which manages it has called for the state to intervene. '
