Bachelor in physics here. It was really tough landing a job without concrete demonstrable skills.

Physics teaches you to teach yourself and forces you to unlike any other degree can and I wouldn't give up that experience for anything. Unfortunately a PhD narrows your job range even further and means that you like to hurt yourself more.

Now I work in database design, data analytics and manage a development team. Being able to pick up skills and programming languages easily is what the industry is all about. Getting your foot in the door is the hard part.
