Use a stencil for your stars once you get your spacing right(yes, I read the comments and I saw you were having trouble with spacing).

You could probably add some stars easy enough w/ some balsa wood and an exacto knife.

I was thinking of doing something like that with a future flag, but I'm having trouble scalin the stars. Once I have that figured out then I'd probably do an inlay of diamond plating or something fun.

I doubt I could do it with an exact knife though, most of this pallet wood is oak with some other unknown woods mixed in.

Thanks for the input, you've led me to the great idea of having stars cut out of diamond plate and pinned on top of the union to add another layer.

Balsa wood is some pretty thin stuff you can dent w/ a fingernail. Once painted it would probably look pretty good w/ the pallet wood. Diamond plating would look pretty sweet as well.
