It ran down hill. And if the air was still the fumes went down hill too.

EDIT: Grammar.

The fumes are what light.

Even if the gasoline soaked into the ground, the fumes, which are heavier than air, would flow on top of it.

It's amazing how many people live day-to-day without the high school level phys/bio/chem knowledge that would tell them just how narrowly they avoided unconsciousness/blindness/immolation/dismemberment/death.

I got this stupidity beat. Back in the day I was out at my buddies farm. Another buddy and I thought it would be cool to light poplar fuzz on fire. It was everywhere. We thought we were smart and poured a ring of water around a patch of it in the grass. Well, the fire got out of the ring and proceeded to light all the other fuzz on fire, running into the bush. Took 6 of us hours to put it all the way out. It was scary. Shovels and those piss pack firefighting backpacks did most of the work.

What? Wait. You're telling me that gasoline gives off fumes that ignite?

So, like, if I pour a trail on the ground and wait for my idiot friend to grab the camera, the fumes will spread along the ground? So, like, when I light the "trail," I'm really lighting the large swath of fumes that has dissipated?

Weird....
