Since MANY of the positions have been labeled as “non-essential”, I think they may want to keep their heads down and lay low, instead of whining.

I've literally had people tell me they haven't been getting paid. Well clearly that wasn't true and it is just starting tomorrow. So if you've had people similarly complaining, they're freaking whiners who should've been complaining to their representatives. My thinking is these are the types of people who want to be seen as victims. Fucking ridiculous.

They are bending the truth, but they're not lying. They were working knowing they wouldn't be getting a paycheck at the end of the pay period. What they are also not telling you, though, is that when all this is done, they will receive all the pay they missed.

The only people who this is seriously affecting are government employees who have maxed out their credit cards and live paycheck to paycheck.

Like most people, they get paid in the rears for work they previously did.

They stopped coming in in mid december, so this is the first missed pay check. When they go back, they will need to work for half a month before they get another check.

Not typically how it works. Usually congress will grant them back pay in whatever bill is passed.

[–] DiscontentedMajority 1 points 1 points (+2|-1) ago

When I worked for the government, the only people who got back paid were the essential personnel who had to keep working.

I suppose congress can do whatever the fuck it wants, but if that ends up being the case, all of them should have to keep working.

I sincerely hope the furloughed employees receive zero pay for their vacation.

many of whom are facing post-holiday bills

As someone who has his personal economy under control, WTF is a "post-holiday bill" ?

Overspending on credit cards maybe? I don't know either.

[–] CaptnObvius 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

we'll pay them like they work, sometime when we get around to it.

Simple smokescreen - most fed employees don't care .
