Honestly, just presenting my own prejudice against Microsoft technologies.

It looks like the reddit codebase is open source and written in python...

It would have been nice if voat simply set up another site with a reddit fork. reddit tech is good, it's the administration and management that's a problem.

The difference here was that Voat was never supposed to be a Reddit alternative in the first place. It was and still is a hobby project to lock his programming skills in. When a site blows up, are you going to waste thousands of hours rewriting the site in a completely different programming language or are you going to optimize the code and work it into a stable site?
