I seriously don't understand the uproar. If you want a large, quality PC monitor? $500+. Large quality 4k TV for console? $1000+. A freaking virtual reality headset, which would probably be the most immersive you could ever be into a video game? 600-700$ Sound fair to me. Cry babies.

Yeah it was a matter of badly managed expectations, Occulus has been talking about a much lower price point pretty much forever.
I think it's a reasonable price point for what it is, but I can understand the backlash and I certainly would rather by a headset from someone other than Facebook.
Their controller setup looks nice though, and I have some faith in the companies involved. The camera isn't that big a deal to me either, and I've used the DK1 extensively.
I'd want to wait for a camera. Combine a headset with the AR type applications M$ is coming with could be a lot of fun.
If the shit was wireless you could basically emulate a silent hill type game in your own home using your own home. Just think of the hours of fun crying in your closet while unknown terrors scream into the headset.
I'd rather the first main piece of VR technology have high standards and a high cost. Overtime as the technology becomes cheaper, companies will strive to match the better piece of tech for lower prices. This just sets a high standard for the equipment used in VR.
Just sold my DK2 for a decent profit. Definitely waiting for Vive. As @The_Dude said, the companies involved give me hope it will be worth the wait.
The games support alone should make it the clear winner, although I am sure similar things were said about Betamax, Minidisc and HDDVD. I guess time will tell.
Smart move - I also sold my DK2 for a nice profit on ebay (winning bid was $590). While I do believe the Vive will be a better VR experience, I think the CV1 will be 'good enough' for right now, so I pre-ordered one within minutes of the offering.
I will order the Vive and MS Hololens when they are available too, and probably sell which ever HMD doesn't get used. Although I could see myself owning all three and using them in games/applications that cater to their individual strengths.
I loved my Sony Minidisc player. Especially loved the editing ability and the little discs. Was way better than CD but yeah mp3 kinda rendered it pointless.
lol. A strangely good point! I wonder if in fact they did get it in at the 200-400 price range and then just bumped up the price.. because... facebook...

True, kind of a 'bait and switch' deal. But once the masses cool down, and the initial reviews come in, we'll see if it's really worth it.

Well, they've been claiming that they were aiming for a $300 price point. Also, the development kits were a lot cheaper.

Yeah looks like I'll be waiting for the HTC Vive, I wish they hadn't delayed it to add a camera though.

Whether Facebook wins the VR war or not you will be kicking yourself either way for supporting them.

My DK1 is sitting on top of my HD-DVD player. Guess which one I still use... Also I should have said 'hope' not 'faith' as well. ;)

I had such high hopes for mini disc but digital storage is so much nicer.
