I think you're absolutely right, but there may be other reasons for all this fuss. There's "selective empathy", but many are angry that a white rich western man can go and do whatever he pleases throwing money at people. Cecil was one of the few animals protected by law and men, and the fact that even this was not enough is upsetting for many. Plus the way this animal was killed was disgusting and particularly cruel.

Anyway, again, I think you're right, and there's a lot of hypocrisy in mourning one animal while disregarding all the others who die every day for men's entertainment and pleasure. I hope this will trigger some reflection.
