I don't think people are getting riled up over animal cruelty at all. They are getting pissed off that this guy lured (baited) a well known and local favorite out of a protected area to kill it for sport.

Hmm, I think people think it's cruelty, they are upset the lion was tricked (lured out of the park), it wasn't killed effectively (it was shot with a bow and chased for 40 hours), and then dismembered.

I work at a firearm and archery dealer, so my interactions with people's feelings on this are heavily skewed towards a hunters perspective.

That said, you are very correct on the aspect of it being a very inhumane kill. From the customers I've spoken with today on the subject of Cecil, it was more this guy's shady methods of baiting the well known / local favorite lion from a safe haven to an area in which he could make it a "legal" kill (not saying it was right or even legal, just that it was lured from a protected Park to a non protected plot of land)

Even us Savage hunters care about a "clean kill" in which the animal does not suffer, and unfortunately, Cecil was not given that respect. I did not speak to one person today that was not disturbed by how this beautiful lion was dispatched....

And I realize I'm replying in a vegan community, I found my way here from /v/all/new, don't hate me!
