I have been a member of Reddit for 7 years and Digg for years before that. I moved from Digg to Reddit to escape the constant and blatant content manipulation. Reddit was like a breath of fresh air, for a while. In the past year I have noticed much more content manipulation and censorship than I would have ever dreamed but I was being foolish. Of course once a website becomes top dog in its class on the internet people will take note and try to control it. There are plenty of posts that sum up what has happened to Reddit but I believe this sums up best why I left. So I found a new home.
Cue voat.co. I came here to open this sub for anyone to post anything they like. From news to conspiracies or whatever you like. The content will be decided by the users and no one else. The only thing that will be removed are things that are obviously illegal, one example being child pornography, very simple rules. Other than the one rule that forbids illegal content anything else goes. The upvote/downvote button will decide. I hope you enjoy the sub and this will likely be last you hear from me personally as I turn the sub over to the users.

Very good question and thank you for asking. The laws of the country this website is based in are the laws that will be enforced. If I am forced to remove something by my own governing country, the United States of America, then it will be removed as well. The user base will be notified of any entry I am forced to remove by a governing agency as long as it is legal for me to carry out i.e. no gag orders. If something is removed from this sub it will be due to my hand being forced. I have plenty of money and do not need any more, so money wont get it done. I am not responsible for the content people post on this sub but will remove any item that I know for sure is illegal. If I am not sure it is illegal it will stay until such time as I am forced to remove it. I am not a lawyer so all I can do is remove blatantly illegal items such as child pornography.
