Tampon, gets pushed into the vagina with via a plastic syringe and its removed with a string. If it is in too long you can succumb to toxic shock syndrome. If you accidentally push it in too far you will have to get it medically removed. Menstrual pads are placed in the underwear lined up with the outside of the vagina and absorbs leaking discharge. Panty liners are similar to menstrual pads but absorb much less which makes them more for light discharge. There is also a menstrual cup which is reusable after washing it which is inserted into the vagina catches menstrual blood. Unlike tampons you are a lot less likely to succumb to toxic shock as long as you keep it clean and you can wear it overnight.
