I'm going to share this experience with you all as I go along. Right now she's scared of me because I'm being very strict. Soon though, once she gets used to me, there will be push back. This will be an interesting and likely exhausting month.

I hope she can figure out that if she behaves properly, she will receive better attention and life is a lot easier.

Lurker here. Stay strong. I believe that you are doing this out of love, right? I had to do a similar thing with my stepson. He was ten when I married his mother. It is hard but stand your ground. She will hate you now but will thank you later. Remember all of the great advise that you have given us.

Once you fold, her progression folds.

I really appreciate being kept up on the saga. I remember my 16 year old cousin coming to stay with us on the farm for a summer when neither his mom nor dad wanted to "deal" with him (I think it was more that he didn't want to "deal" with their narcissism, but that is a story for another time). We certainly weren't as on the ball as you are but being able to participate in a loving family can't be underestimated as far as the positive impact it can have on people. My wife and I hope to be a place where neighborhood kids can see what a loving family is and use that as a model if they don't have one...I was very sad to find out the the "block parent" program is officially dead except for a few local chapters that run independently. I think you are inspiring many of us to be "block parents".

Hopefully, one day, she'll realize what a huge favor you did for her in turning her life around.

This whole series of thread is going to be hilarious.

Good luck. Keep in mind if you're too pushy you're just going to turn her away from your traditional style even more, this is actually the outcome you should expect.

Thank you. I'll need this reminder from time to time. I tend to be a disciplined person which can definitely come off as 'pushy' to an undisciplined person. Please stay on top of me about this. <3

Have fun, be playful from time to time, show her that she isn't useless and give her compliments. Positive reinforcement is key!

Try doing some baking, perhaps bread so she doesn't gorge on deserts!

Take her out to do fun stuff that doesn't involve shopping. Like hiking for example, or perhaps historical sites.

Instead of ruling over her like she's in boot camp you should try to make her see the positive aspects of a traditional woman. No one likes boot camp, you're likely to just turn her off of that lifestyle permanently. Just sit down and have a conversation with her. Maybe make a list of some talking points beforehand and things that you think are positive about being a traditional wife. Find some statistical information online to show her, stuff like that.

Don't forget to show her why the choices she makes matter. Also to make sure she understands the idea of the delayed gratification of hard work and determination (beating the batter, vs enjoying the finished cake). She needs to know that the choices she makes now will pay off in the end, and she should be rewarded for making the right choices in determining her value to herself, her family, and society at large.

I do not envy her right now, but if she succeeds she is going to pass on the lessons you teach her, which is the most one could hope for.

The "level" you speak of is GOD. Just like evil you can't be bullied (entirely) into good...you must believe in GOD and CHOOSE the right path.

This is an interesting mix of hilarious and heartwarming. You could make a decent film script out of it, but somehow I doubt Hollywood would be interested.

I'm just shocked that my sister allowed things to get to this point. I'm floored that my sister didn't stop working once she saw what was happening. FLOORED!

Could she afford to stop working and chose not to?

Do you work? Does your husband make a great living?

That pivots many things for people and gives them options others don’t have unfortunately.

@Empress would wind up looking like this in the Disney adaptation.

I don't care about Hollywood but for sure I would be interested in watching such a film. Can't wait to read the next update.
