Some anecdotes on the AR7 -

When made by Charter Arms they had issues; firing pin breakage from poor heat treatment. Certainly Henry has fixed that by now.

Charter made a pistol version also. Soon after you had to provide a copy of your sales receipt of the pistol version to buy a "spare" barrel & grip from them. Many rifle owners got their order in before however.

They float. If the butt cap is in place on the stock and you drop it into the lake it won't sink.

Amount of accessories in the 80s was staggering. Collapsible stocks, extended mags, etc. Have not checked, may still be the same.

Designed by Eugene Stoner and its precursor (AR-5) was built by Armalite for the USAF -

Used by Bond, James Bond -

Damn! That one bond’s using is really slick!

I got the Henry one so I hope I won’t have that workmanship problems like the charter arms ones.

I’m pretty happy with it so far except for a couple things. First, the trigger wobbles side to side which I find rather chinsy. I get it “it’s just a survival rifle” but I dunno just kinda put me off. And second, the trigger mechanism is HORRENDOUS to put back together. There are so many loose pins and things that can go flying and all, it’s a real nightmare and I do not intend to regularly open it up.

That being said, I’m intrigued by the accessories and happy I have a little 22 plinker now with a fun quirk to it overall too!

First, the trigger wobbles side to side

The few times I've shot one (Charter Arms version) it did that too. Looking at the pic below, you might be able to tighten that up with stainless steel shim washers over the main trigger pivot pin -
