WD = water displacement. Iff a mechanical item gets wet it will push water out of the capillary spaces so it won't rust.

I know what it stands for. I've even used it in the past - that's how I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it's essentially worthless as a replacement for actual oil/grease.

It's a passable but not great penetrating oil and a good bug remover for car hoods.

Outside of that it's pretty much garbage. I wouldn't put that shit on any of my firearms if you fucking paid me. It washes off any previous real lubricant and leaves a film that's slightly better than spit. Which very quickly turns into nothing at all.

Do what you want with your firearms - I don't care. But you'll never convince me WD40 is worth a fuck as a lubricant for anything.

Dude, paper bag & breathe deeply into it a few times. I am not advocating for WD40 in anything other than its intended use.
