All volcanos that spew ash high in the air get the same warning. This is nothing new. Planes avoid them like thunderstorms. Hawaii’s erupting volcano is not a threat to passing airplanes. They are going to fly around it and take lots of pictures because it’s amazing.

So you don't think this is for commercial airlines? I hadn't realized it was still going quite this strong. Maybe blame it on the short attention span of modern media.

If there where active volcanos on my route of flight I was given a warning and why my route of flight was changed. Sometime a volcano erupts after we depart. That plume of ash can climb fast and high and we may not get the warning in time. It happens but it is rare. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8622099.stm

But it happens. I’ve seen it and I avoided it. Those poor fellows where flying at night.
