Obama's bow would be expected in Japanese culture if it was some low-ranking plebian randomly being granted an audience with a top-ranking official that they heavily respected.

Trump's stance is much more applicable for two leaders who both respect the other's country while loving their own.

Bows by a person of inferior status are deeper, longer, and more frequent than bows by a superior. A superior addresses an inferior generally with a slight nod of the head; some others may not bow back at all. Apologetic bows tend to be deeper and longer than all the other kinds of bow. The back is bent for about 45 degrees, the bow lasts for more than three seconds, and the head is lowered.

Obama looks like he's giving it 110% going for that 20 degree bow.

So even by Japanese standards, Obama's 90 degree bow was beyond excessive. Confirms that he only wanted to run around and become the entire world's bitch.

I'd buy the argument that it's an expected bow if and only if Shinto Abe bowed to Obama too. Abe didn't bow to him. That was just Obama being a pussy yet again. If anything, Trump's slight nod is almost exactly the same thing Shinto Abe did to Obama.

Never said Obama's bow was expected, just using my limited understanding of that aspect of their culture to show off why it made no goddamn sense for the leader of a 1st-world nation to bow that low to the Japanese leaders.
