Fuck Atlanta. I visited a friend down there. He lives on the suburban outskirts, and one extended weekend bled my wallet dry. I'll speak to the half day we spent in what I think was downtown later.

The suburb I was in varied between "strip malls on state highways" and "hipster shit in old buildings". I routinely had to drop $25 to $30 a meal, even though we were avoiding "expensive" places.

Combine that with the humidity and lack of coastal presence, and I don't understand the appeal.

Our time in city limits was spent at this '"World Market" place, which wouldn't have been so bad without the crowd it attracts. Seriously, you couldn't round a corner without seeing some horn-rimmed glasses or NuMale. And it all had to be fair trade or farm to table, I couldn't just buy a cheap pork bun!

Then we got to some Victory Sandwich place, where they charge you $7 for the world's smallest sandwich and pre-bagged chips. All with the signature hipster aesthetic of "We're trying to be different by using repurposed wood for tables and hanging obscure shit on the walls".

Seriously, I'm growing tired of mid-sized city life, but this made me really appreciate what I have.

That sounds like a typical downtown anywhere: Detroit, Chicago, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Toronto, etc.
