He was the last of his kind.
The Kraal had once filled these halls. Now they were gone, and he was the last. It made the girl feel sad, until he told her why. Though she hardly believed half of what he said. She never knew when he was joking, or lying, or being deadly serious. He had a weird sense of humour. How did a cockroach looking thing have a sense of humour?
'My name is Mick' he'd told her.
It had a name! Oh god, what had happened to her? There was no way this was real. She had asked him that first day, if he was taking her to his home. He'd laughed at her. 'What the hell would I waste my time on that for', he'd asked? 'I'm built like a tank, I can eat anything, sleep anywhere. When I want to rest, I find somewhere nice that I can wedge myself into, and I sleep. If I find somewhere with lots of food, I stay until it's gone. When it's gone, so am I.'
Nothing about him made sense to her. He was the last of his kind, but he didn't seem to care. 'I'm alive, how is that my problem' he'd said?
'But what about when you die' she'd replied? 'There won't be anymore of you left?'
'Sure I'll be gone' he'd replied. 'Won't be my problem.'
Mick loved food, and everything was food, as far as Mick was concerned. He could literally eat anything organic. But sweet things, the Kraal went to war for sweet things. He'd told her, quite matter of factly, that children were delicious. 'Ah, the good old days', he'd said. 'These halls were once filled with children, quite delicious really!'
'You eat children' the girl had asked?
'Well not anymore' Mick had replied. 'They're all gone, stay with the conversation.'
'But you used to,' the girl had asked.
'Obviously,' Mick had replied. 'We used to have big birthday parties, when a brood hatched. All the adults would get together. Then we would have a big child hunt. Oh the feasts were amazing. We would gorge ourselves for days.'
'But why,' the girl had asked.
'Why not? Children are delicious, and they're dumb. They rather deserve to be eaten, wouldn't you say.' Asked Mick?
'No' the girl replied, horrified at the thought! 'What about adults,' she'd asked?
'No, it's rather rude to eat an adult! Who would do such a horrible thing,' Mick had barked?
@Dumb_Comment_Bot I found this rather challenging, I don't know why but I got massive writers block :)
