Context: Jesus was just asked about a man born blind from birth, did he sin? Or was it his parents sin that caused this birth defect? He says the op verse whilst spitting on the grond fashioning a ball of clay, rubs it in his eyes and tells him to go wash, and the blind man can see when he returns. On its face he's saying do God's will while you can, you could be blind, or otherwise unable, hes also foreshadowing his crucifixion, and thats the night part of the parable. Death comes and you do no work.
