That same thing is happening on /v/Pics, /v/Videos, /v/Science, etc. Seems like marketing / media companies were hedging their bets that Voat would still be popular and created those accounts months ago, and are now coming to cash in.

Oh no, I didn't know it was so pervasive across voat right now. Thanks for the heads-up.

I just called out this post's OP for most likely being a shill:

https://voat.co/v/videos/comments/1265585

The account was just created today and that's the only post so far.

Marketers? Even on Reddit they didn't get involved for years, and they continually seek to only ever outlay resources when there's a relatively good rate of return.

The people who were the first to do this on Reddit were people with tons of free time, highly motivated, grassroots, and had autistic levels of obsession and anger: they were SRS users. They infiltrated subreddits, became highly popular contributors, became mods and even admins, and at every step of the way they operated brigades and ratcheted up the feminist and SJW bullshit.

Don't forget another possible scenario:

Military and government actors who have an interest in shaping the internet's discussion.

Let's not forget that we're breaking new ground on AI and machine learning technology these days - with the right scripts you can run a convincing bot account from a smartphone, imagine what the NSA's Utah facility can do. And if we assume that the military is a few years ahead of civilian technology this only looks more likely.

@atko @PuttItOut

FYI on the obvious alts spamming /v/TIL. There is no mod to address the spam and delete the posts/ban the spammers (if they are indeed spammers).

bro, i'd love to handle the issue, but atko's off, and putt's gone. he may have come back to do the auto-suverse-request-bot but other than that... well he left v/til mod-less for another month. the downvoat button is your last line of defense against spam.

I was wondering why there was like 12 TIL posts on the front page the other day at once.

I figured it was just new spammers/shills building up easy CCP by posting soft-ball shit. Looks like I was right.

I nominate @CANCEL-CAT-FACTS. I remember they said once they really only downvote spam.

Kinda makes you reconsider hitting submit every now and then, don't it?

I'm late to this thread but I'm glad I wasn't the only one noticing this. They're just taking high ranking submissions and reposting them, racking up the upvotes. I thought it was suspicious considering this 'verse gets like maybe 3 submissions a day? then suddenly my entire front page was a couple accounts posting stuff other people had already posted. Thanks for posting this tho, you're the best :)

It's really bad this week! And it's a shame that their posts are still all over TIL's front page getting more and more upvoats but whaddyagonna do. At least we're getting the word out. :)
