I am pretty sure this is how doomsday movies start.

Let me just put this asteroid in orbit around our moon aaaaaanndd it's falling to earth.

But seriously, it's not going to be very big and we could get a bunch of nice minerals from it. Like, we already have a bunch of crap in orbit including the ISS which is much larger than the asteroid they want to capture.

True that. That was my first thought as well. At least size was one of the first things they answered.

They said they were planning on picking 1 of 2 asteroid capture missions by December (of 2014), anybody know if there have there been any significant updates from NASA since this article was published last April?

Hopefully no one decides to use it as an opportunity to show off a fancy new shirt and get all the attention.

I can't help but think they're "preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."

Yeah having a moon for our moon would be pretty awesome, but with all the things that could go wrong, and the potential damage, is it really worth it? IMO: We should focus more on stabilizing the ecosystem before doing things that could seriously mess things up. Tidal forces alone would change dramatically and there's no study to see what that will do to living creatures.

According to this the asteroid would only be the size of a boulder.

I'm sure they'll put enough research into it to make it as safe as possible, but mistakes can still happen. That said, I hope they go through with it.

This is helpful information for my movie plot. Thanks!

Really? Mars again?

NASA just gets so tedious after a while.
