We do pledge allegiance to the flag....every day as kids.

The original text of Bellamy's pledge of allegiance was as follows:
I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
You'll notice the absence of the godly bits.
