History Archived TIL that a "butt" was a unit of measurement for wine in medieval England. So a "buttload of wine" would be aprox. 120 gallons (en.wikipedia.org)

Actually a tun is two butts (not making this up) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_wine_cask_units#butt

I think it's interesting that all the units are outdated now but the words still get used, in brewing we use a mash tun.
