Is it true Republicans haven’t won presidential race since 1928 without a Bush or Nixon? | PolitiFact Wisconsin

'The Republican Party has not won a presidential election without either a Bush or a Nixon on the ticket since 1928. '

'This is how Washington Post Wonkblog reporter Matt O’Brien put it:Republicans haven’t won a presidential election without a Bush or Nixon on the ticket since 1928. '

'No Republican has been elected president since 1928 without a member of the Bush family or Richard M. Nixon on the GOP ticket?'

'That was our first reaction as we quickly tried to do think back through the roster of GOP presidential and vice-presidential contestants over that 84-year span. '

'Here we go:Nixon was Dwight Eisenhower’s running mate in 1952 and 1956 and served as vice president. '

Incidentally the political party in office changes depending on where the Summer Olympics are held. If the Summer Olympics are held in a city which is previously won the bidding for them then the political party and the Office of the President will remain the same. However if they are held in a city that has not previously won the bidding (see Rio this year and Beijing 2008), then the political party in office will change. Combine that with the above today I learned and you have for a very interesting election one which will ultimately break the perfect the records of both of these statements.

But he took over from Nixon, there was no ticket since the one with Nixon on it.

while i agree that he was never elected...the title says "became president" not "elected president."

He wasn't elected, though. He took over after Nixon resigned.

This is only strange because of W. Another way of saying it is that between Hoover and W, both Republican Presidents elected without having been VP saw their VP go on to become President. Not all that surprising.
