I think it has something to do with the stronger instinct women have to do everything in their power not to be excluded from their social group. I obviously have no data to back it up, but I think that plays a significant part.

I agree with your sentiment. I recently had surgery and the only people who knew were my gf, parents and bro. They only found out right before I went in. Friends only found out afterwards, on what was supposed to be my normal day off, when they were just checking in to go do something. I told them to not even bother coming by as I was just laid up and chilling for the first week.

I don't begrudge those that want to be surrounded by friends and to have support. I'm there for them if they want me there. I just don't need it.
