Works the same way with junk you set out on your curb. If you write free on it, it stays for weeks, but put it for sale as $20.00 obo, it's gone before nightfall.

One time my mom left her washer out on her driveway, and someone took it without her writing free on it, or placing on a price tag -- SHE WASN'T TRYING TO GIVE IT AWAY SOME FUCK HOLE JUST STOLE IT. Looking back at it she could've reported it to the police, but she didn't think of it. Oh well. The world's full of pieces of shit. If you don't guard something it will be stolen.

For what its worth, where I live if I saw a large appliance left out in front of a house I would assume the owner was getting rid of it.

this is crazy to me for two reasons: one, i never thought of this before. it seems so obvious. two: it's so motherfucking believable.

Fucking potato conspiracies.

Edit: VoatAntacid had said something along the lines of "Frederick and some other dude did the same thing" before he deleted his account.

Nah bro, it is just a coincidence that these guys conspired to boost sales of potato crops. Don't be such a conspiracy theorist.

It was an exotic import from the new world, scary to some. I imagine it sold as well as a lychee or dragonfruit does in the USA when it was first introduced.

There was also the aspect of people considering it to be dirty. There was also confusion about which parts to eat since the leaves and fruit are poisonous. Also, common people are more likely to reject the food if the aristocracy aren't eating it.

Fucking continentals.

If you want to have an orderly society, you let people order themselves and you are truthful with them. Things get untidy, but everything thrives. If you want an "orderly" society, you manipluate and try to control what people do by manipulating them. Everything looks nice, but it is only on the surface and you are constantly in a struggle.

This is the difference between an English garden and a French garden. And if you look at the modern world, the difference between the anglophone world and the francophone world.
