We human beings are social animals. We did not become the dominant species on the planet by leaving behind our OLD, YOUNG, SICK AND LAME. We became the dominant species because we recognized that each person can bring something to the village stew pot. To that end we formed social groups in which every one had a place. OK I WILL ADMIT, that any group that spends more resources than they can acquire on supporting non productive members WILL NOT LAST LONG. Understanding the last statement is crucial in survival. But tell that to a family that has a son with Juvenile Diabetes, or a elder parent or grand parent with asthma. Or a pregnant woman suffering cramps, eclampsia, and Nausea.
These conditions if allowed to continue unabated will destroy the whole group. But what if through the simple mechanism of proper diet, ( being on the look out for certain foods that are nutritious and have medicinal benefits) you are able to treat these conditions, making the afflicted person a productive member of the group. It is a win win situation.
There is also the side benefit of, as other people learn of your success in treating injuries and ailments you will gain stature and valuable trade considerations which will in crease the social and economic wealth of your group.
I know all this stuff is not a SEXY as making a BUSH AX out of chili cans, but may be of greater importance in the long run.
