Just wanted to start a discussion on this show. On how this new show is not star trek.
Star Trek is something that I can actually use to build up my moral base.
What I mean by that is, I can put on an older star trek, be it Voyager, DS9, Enterprise and or Next gen, and have a story that is told with morality and care. Something without harsh swear words and gore.
And then have that “star trek” feeling after watching the show. You know, the feeling that even if the show has little action, and possibly low budget for the episode, the message was solid and true. A warm fuzzy tribble feeling inside.
This new Trek does not do that, at all.
Because this new show is so abrasive, it seems like it’s about the parallel universe with the evil Spock. On how the federation became the Terran empire.
This is not star trek for adults. It somewhat like star trek for drugged up addicts or something. Torture, rape, gore, swear words and gay kissing.
The dialog and editing seems made for people with low attention spans. Everything must be explained to the audience. Even the toughness of the main character is told through the series so far. Even with the actions she does. They still need to bash the idea that this character is kick ass.
“Because I watched you tame the most incredible creature, and well, your not afraid of anything” - is the type of dialog that does not need to be used to describe the main character. But this IS the dialog and this sucks for good storytelling.
Picard would have a field day with this new “hero”. Putting the person in place with well thought out words and actual acting.
It’s like someone thought “lets make a character based on Ensign Roe except she went to vulcan school for vulcan judo and because of this, she is unstoppable!". Makes for a un likeable character in the long run. Don't care how much violence there is, this is not "star trek".
