It took me a long while, using excuses like.. Well my friends use it or it's a good way to keep in touch. I went onto a community group for where I live and seen a post today. The post read "I am coming on facebook to apologize for my dog that ran out to a woman walking her dog today, I hurt my foot so she has been in the house for 3 weeks. I yelled to the lady that she is nice, but the lady just gave me a bad look"
The post bothered me of course, but what really hit it home for me was every post after. People saying things like, "It takes courage to apologize publicly", "Good for you apologizing", "My dog does this too, I am so proud of you coming out and apologizing in public"
Non stop virtue signaling from other people who obviously let their dogs do the same thing. I wrote a short post that contained no profanity and wrote out something to the degree of, "How is apologizing on facebook going to help, why don't you take steps like not letting your dog outside with out a leash on so it does not happen again", quick summery.
Sorry folks, part of apologizing is making sure it does not happen again or taking steps towards that. I was not expecting her to change her mind, as she never posted again, but the people who were defending her are the exact reason sterilization should almost be mandatory if you can't think outside of making yourself feel good. One of the post's after mine was, "Every dog owner has had this happen, it's something we all experience. Dog's just want to say hi and most people don't care". In other words, I let my dog chase down strangers on the street all the time because I too am a irresponsible dog owner.
I am not mad, more of let down.. These fucking people are taking over and the few people who are responsible and take actions to be a good citizen won't speak up because they are afraid of the backlash they will face. I wish there was some way to hold people accountable for not taking responsibility for their actions and life. Today was the day I fear for my well being as an individual who refuses to take part in this group think society. Social media is decaying us from the inside out, changing the way's we talk and hold people accountable, specifcially Facebook, Instagram and Reddit. Tumblr is a whole different story. Deep down, I know they know that they are fucking irresponsible idiots and fully know what they are doing is wrong. They just have the ability to get away with it now because of the high numbers of people who are the same as them.
