But dont you have to get to that hopelessness once in a mans life to actual become a man? Isn't that adversity what makes men strong? I think boys/men hit a breaking point at some point in their life and it is at that very point that a boy becomes a man, or a man becomes broken.

I don't think so, no. Kinda like you don't need to be kicked in the nuts to be a man.

Overcoming adversity isn't what makes a man. Doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching, is what makes a man. Overcoming adversity may be a part of that.

I assumed doing the right thing when no one was watching made you a good a Christian. I'm not saying you were wrong either, rather I see what you mean and agree that its a mix of both.
