This was actually quite a herculean task. It's not easy to make dinner when you're on crutches - so I didn't. I used my walker and made dinner!
Technically, I didn't make everything. I made burgers with ground moose and french fries. Someone else made the salad,
This was a goal of mine and this is the first meal that I've made since returning home. I accepted zero assistance, other than someone making the salad and someone moving the large skillet over (as I made dinner for four, two burgers each). I probably could have moved the skillet myself, but it was just easier and they were already right next to it.
It's amazing how many trips I had to make across the kitchen. Everything has to be done in a different manner and I'm limited in what I can move from one location to another. For some, I have to move them in steps. Reach, grab the item, reach, place the item down, move myself further down the line, and repeat until both myself and the items get to their destination.
It's awkward as fuck and it took about an hour. But, I did it.
It may seem trivial, but I'm actually pretty fucking pleased with myself for having managed. It was not even remotely easy.
Which is to say, I'm pretty sure I deserve a goddamned medal for making dinner. On top of that, it was delicious. The missus made homemade buns this afternoon. They were also delicious.
Yup... I deserve a damned medal. Maybe even two!
That is all.

Did you eat your dinner?
[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 3 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago
I did. It was delicious. Later, I will eat blueberry donuts. I have to keep my caloric intake up, 'cause I've been losing too much weight.

Try drinking melted butter. If a bitch tells you know, no cabbage for her!

I award you the Medal of the Iron Skillet. Hope everyone enjoyed the meal.

They did, indeed. This is the first real meal I've made since I broke my femur. It was far more complex than it should have been. There was some pain involved, and even some frustration. However, nothing was spilled or broken and it was delicious.

Not much, actually. Moose meat, ground. Dice an onion, cut a pepper, crush two or three cloves of garlic with a garlic press, and add in about 1/4 the weight with bread crumbs (to help it stick together, 'cause moose isn't like cooking beef). Then, you just cook 'em like normal. On the last flip, cover 'em with two pieces of good cheese. I used pepperjack today.

What does moose taste like?

As well as can be expected. I'm remarkably pleased with having done such a simple task. LOL

Well done, mate. To go from being able to readily use all four limbs simultaneously to having to pick only two at a time really makes so-called simple tasks a lot more complicated. Glad to hear you made something that sounds so tasty.

LOL Thanks, though I didn't really choose this. Sure, it's kinda my fault, but I wasn't planning on breaking a hip/femur.
If you're open to advice, I'd suggest that you never, ever break a femur. It's not worth it.

This seems like a code. Operation Dine In a go!
My announcement is the extreme pain I’m experiencing has caused me to piss on myself only 4 times today... so progress.

WTF did you do?
[–] goatboy 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Can’t talk about it, but let’s just say fighting with a bezoar in the gut ain’t much fun.

Thanks! I deserve a goddamned medal. It feels like I walked three miles, back and forth in the kitchen. It'd normally take me like 20 minutes. It took me just about an hour, and that's ignoring some of the initial prep time.
Still, I think it's a pretty good accomplishment and I'm kinda pleased with myself.

It's amazing the little things we take for granted, until we have trouble doing them.
Well done! It's good to hear you are improving.
[–] TheBuddha [S] 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
Yeah, thanks! It could use better planning. I made a bunch of needless trips, or trips that could have been condensed into fewer trips.
LOL They make a basket (like you see on girl's bikes) for walkers. I should get one.

Nothing wrong with using tools made for the task. Might feel demeaning but if it's only temporary and not going to be an issue of reliance. Work smarter, not harder!
