I meant was it worth it to the majority of people at the time who didn't want the revolutionary war, but lived through it anyway. From their perspective the local elites (the founding fathers) were rebelling against more distant elites (the crown) for transgressions that hardly affected poor ppl. While the commoners absorbed the bulk of the terror and death from the war, like always.
