I'm not sure if this is the right place but if you are going to live simply, at some point, you may need a Come Along. My wife and I bought a small farm last year. We've had a lot to clean up from the previous owners and one of them was a fallen 50ft oak tree. Of course they left the biggest parts, namely the 3.5ft diameter trunk. I didn't want to just cut it up into a bunch of small pieces since we have plenty of firewood already. I wanted to save it to, hopefully, mill some of the wood into useable planks. That will be a future project so for now I just had to move it out of the way. Enter the Come Along or Cable puller. I cut the tree into 12-15ft pieces and then used the Come Along to pull them off to the side and out of our way. It feels pretty good being able to move 2-3 ton logs by yourself. The Come Along can be used for a lot of things like pulling a truck/car/atv out of the mud, tightening up fence lines and wenching up engines. Here's a video I found in case you're not sure what I am talking about.
