But turning this into yet one more political sub is robbing this site of much needed content diversity. There is nothing funny or lighthearted at Voat. Every single posting on every single sub has to be about Muslim refugees raping people and Trump sticking it to the libs. It would be nice if showerthoughts could actually be a haven for funny observations about the world.

So provide more non political content. Nobody is preventing or censoring non political content. It is a lack of submitting that is the issue.

I often think about politics in the shower, as i have just sat and read the news while taking a shit prior to showering, and it is fresh in my mind.

And, finally. It is an election year, so people are more politically involved than normal, so maybe it will even out after the elections.

Yeah, this place is kinda turning into 4chan as in all boards are the same. I think it has more to do with our active community being relatively small.

Yup, just like Reddit. 90% of the posts are there to incite an argument, or to grandstand about something, or to just plain old circlejerk, and it's not even always political. It's even worse at Reddit because they don't have /v/whatever to catch some of the crap.

TIL is almost as bad here too, people just sharing obvious bait facts that they almost certainly have known for quite some time.

Political soapboxing is against the spirit of a shower thought. They should be creative, oddball thoughts that may not have any significance or consequence but to be amusing. Shower thoughts can be political but they're not valued for their insightful commentary.

Even if you did think of them in the shower, it's a weak defense considering the very rules of the subverse state "shower observations" like "I need more soap" are discouraged. There is an expectation of what they should be and that's not what the majority of the content is now. Go to /v/politics if you just want to soapbox.

I agree. If it's the sort of statement that would have been said in a Mitch Hedberg routine, then it's a shower thought. If it's a political statement squarely on the left or right, then it's just some person's opinion, most probably a rehash from a cable or online news source.

So are you proposing that political shower thoughts need to be censored? Maybe there should be a COC.
