That's a high barrier of entry though. If you are a common Joe wanting just one AR platform rifle at least.

Agreed. Its about $1000 plus the raw stock and all the finishing pieces. I would contend that it pays for itself if one makes 1 AR and 1 1911. Quality versions of both of these guns are not far off the $1000 price tag.
Plus, Ive never met any AR owner who needed just 1 AR. Youll need 556/223, grendel, the new Valkerie, 9mm, and 22lr, other pistol calibers, one set up for HD, another for long range, a third for backup, 2 for the wife, 1 for each kid, the list is endless.
The police have no obligation to protect you as confirmed by SCOTUS on at least 6 separate occasions.
The AR15 is proof that God loves us and wants us to be safe.
