I don't think so. I am a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by degree, but I work in IT now (go figure). I am constantly impressed by how similar the two fields are.

Science: Theory-->Experiment-->Data-->Publish

IT: Proof of Concept-->QA Testing-->Data-->Deploy

You can also add in there re-design and re-test (for scientists experiments give unexpected data that may change our hypothesis)

Bonus: both are highly math based.
