Back when a degree served as a symbol of higher thinking and reasoning it was appropriate, and it was also not an exclusive path to leadership as NonComs were the heart and soul of a good military. Now? Degrees are as common as dirt. I have a few. Collected like merit badges. But knowing what I do from listening to husband's experiences... not one of my pieces of paper would serve me in the field leading people. I can basically ask them about their feelings, make a historic reference in french, and then go vax a cow. Not helpful where the metal meets the meet.

You might be surprised what actually is useful in a "shit hits the fan" scenario. First and foremost, have you done this before? Criminals and illegals would be making out better than the officer class, probs.

At this point it should preclude one.
