the school snubbed him, he designed what would go on to become one of the most recognized flags in human history. Also it's not that he thought they were privileged it's more so that he thought they were parasites damaging his home country

He wasn't wrong. In fact, Hitler was Reich.

He was a pretty good painter and sketch artist really, he made his living in Vienna by selling portraits and landscape pieces and such, his works are quite still though, very exact, but kind of lifeless. Bloody impressive that he was self taught, with training I'm sure he would have been quite the painter. This one is my fave http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2015/6/21/1434885572206/32dd2ac1-ed8e-46b4-8414-e754840287bb-2060x1236.jpeg

He was a pretty good painter, but the main problem is that he wasn't good enough to be one of the best painters. And since he applied to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna which was considered one of the best, if not the best art schools at the time, it was doomed to failure. It'd be like if you tried to apply to Harvard with a 3.9 GPA. Sure you're one of the best, but Harvard is going to deny a ton of applications that are even better than yours, so you have no hope of getting in.
