Young coworkers explained how this worked to me this morning. If they replaced those stupid Pokemon characters with something else, I could easily see this catching on for soccer moms or other target groups. Like use hot Fabios and other hunks. Or maybe even inanimate objects (like sports cars or fishing equipment for dads). Pokemon is just too big of a leap for us older folks. We don't get the appeal. There may be a few bandwagning, but generally I don't find too many Pokemon enthusists over 35.

That limited fan age might have to do with the franchise only existing since 1996, and people not really getting the appeal if they weren't a little kid with lots of free time at a point when one of the games in the franchise came out.

Sure it gets downloaded, but that doesn't mean it's kept or played. I've talked to three people who said they downloaded it, and then deleted it an hour later.
