I really dislike the way most voaters see marriage. My wife is my best friend , we've been together for 14 years, have a wonderful son, and I would not be happier if I were single or just playing the field. Do what works for you, buy laying down a huge blanket statement like this is unnecessary.

You are the increasingly rare exception.

My experience tells me otherwise.

ditto. Marriage is not without its own difficulties, but if you marry the right woman, a true helpmeet, it is inconceivable to live without her.

The thing is, you can do all of that without an arbitrary legal document.

If you really love someone you let them be free. True love is a partner that is free to go anywhere but they stay with you. If things change, and the other person isn't happy anymore, I don't want them to be a prisoner of my love.

The legal document only helps with things like death, serious illness, and if you break the law they don't have to testify against you in court. That's probably it.

Edit: shit, forgot taxes. also can help with those.

The legal document will help if you have children. It is just so much easier because the system is set up in such way.

Same here, ten years though. We dated for two years before getting married and waited to have a kid until two years after. I think a big problem a lot of people have is that they jump in head first and have no idea what they're really getting themselves into.
