I've never done this kind of repair but these tutorials may help (I hope!). Good luck!

There are lots of tutorials online but these cover the basics.

If you are going to sew the repairs by hand you should know these stitches:

Thank you much my nigger.

What you want for a poem?

No poem required! The one you wrote for me a while ago is what I'll treasure. :)

Theo, use a linen or linen/cotton blend as your replacement fabric. It will perform better with manly pocket use.

If the material is still good enough and you dont mind a slightly shorter pocket.

Clean the hole and surrounding material up and fold over 1/4" and run two lines of sticthes on the fold.

I did this for a pocket on my jeans. Still holding strong.

I've only done it once, but it worked okay. Assuming you can do a basic stitch anyway.

Turn the pants inside out for convenience. Carefully cut the old pocket out with a seam ripper. Once the pockets out, separate all the pieces at the seams, keeping track of how it's assembled. I used those pieces to get a pattern I put on a couple cotton handkerchiefs. Then sew the pieces back together before sewing them back into the pants.

I'm sure there's tutorials somewhere with better ideas, but thats how broke me did it back in the day.

Get some of those iron-on knee patches, turn out your pockets and iron on the patches.

Problem solved.

Make new pockets and sow them in.

buried pockets in my garden, waiting for new pants to sprout!

I actually thought the same thing, buy some pre made pockets and sew them in. But christ that sounds like a lot of work to make nice.. I think I'd prefer a proper patch.

I'm still waiting for my pockets to sprout. I see some little threads coming out of the soil, but no pockets. What kind of fertilizer are you using?
