Viz is one of the last bastions of non-pc pandering, adult, male humour left.
On the surface it is a basic, toilet humour centred and puerile magazine. Dig deeper however, and you will find some surprisingly sophisticated satire and parody. Some of the funniest, sharpest satirical observations of the last 30 odd years have come from the pages of Viz.
Strips like 'Millie Tant' and 'The Modern Parents' have been slating the extreme left for years. Way before it became 'trendy' and 'edgy' to question the PC agenda. Seriously, if you are not familiar with these two comic strips, look them up, they are absolute genius. I particularly love how the absolutely hammer the hypocrisy of a lot of blatantly mentally ill, extremist views.
And it is not just the left that comes in for a beating. Like Private Eye, they satirise the right wing too. Jack Black and Baxter Basics spring to mind immediately. And when you are tired of the satire, there are some top notch fart, bum and dick jokes to satisfy your inner 5 year old. My particular favourite is Emperor Ming, the Stinky Galactic Dictator (Ming is north east UK slang for a bad smell)
They also knew about Jimmy Saville and dropped some pretty heavy hints about his activities years ago. You, know, back when he was satisfying his inner five year old......by being inner five year old.........Too soon?
