So I live in a pretty rural area, if I want to run in a park I have to drive 40+ minutes, then run, then get in my truck all sweaty and drive back home. Taking up at least two and a half hours of my time but probably closer to three. So naturally I run around my neighborhood. Everyone has a few acres of land, some have ten or twenty acres but I'm not entirely out in the sticks.
In order to get the distance I want I either have to keep running around my block (a bit over a mile) or I run the bigger loop that takes me out to one of the larger roads and back, it's about 4 miles or so. First few times I've ran it no problems but twice now I've had dogs come up on me. Once they were trying to sneak up on me but I heard them and turned around and they took off.
Today how ever I actually had a dog run out of this guys yard and try to attack me. Not a large dog but big enough, I actually felt teeth nip at the skin by my knee. She backed off and ran away once I shouted and her owner started calling but it really scared me. I love dogs and I'd hate for someone to have to have their dog put down because it bit me while I was running. Yet I can't just jog around my block forever nor can I drive almost an hour to run at a park. So how do I deal with possibly dangerous dogs while running?
Tl;Dr how do you deal with dogs while running?
