Thank you for your question. The only reason that the app defaults to certain subverses being blocked is because Apple would not allow the app in their app store without it. You can easily unblock the subverses by simply swiping the subverse and removing it in Settings -> Content -> Blocked Subverses or by manually going to the subverse and hitting the action button on the top right.

Even so the app should share the same attitude about free speech that the whole site espouses. The app shouldn't be Redditized Voat.
